Chocolate Dipped Shortbread

Salam everyone,

I've been in my cleaning mood these past few days.  I don't know why but that rarely happen to me.  I am not a cleaning person, I hate cleaning and I am allergic to dust and the vacuum cleaner......hehehez.  I remember when Jannah was still a baby/toddler, she got scared whenever she hears the sound of a vacuum or a blender.  Everytime I turned these 2 appliances on, she will quickly run into her room.  She will cringe and hold me thightly whenever I hold either the vacuum or blender close to her without even turning them on.  Hb once said to Jannah...."It's ok to be scared of vacuum now but not when u grow up.  Don't be like mama....she's scared of the vacuum."  Duh!!!  I am not scared of vacuum, I just hate cleaning, period and will only clean if I have to ahakkkksss.

Since my cleaning mojo was at my highest high.  I stripped up the cooker hood and cleaned it starting from the top to every nooks and crannies of the hood.   Got a few cuts from trying to clean the inside edges of the hood and I even did a thorough clean of the oven.  They are not really dirty-dirty bcos I do keep them clean at all time and I make sure I clean up all the spits (from cooking) and spills immediately.  Even though I admit that I am lazy, I just hate to clean any burnt on grease or spills that's why I make it a habit to clean as I go.  I even cleaned the bathroom and sanitised it which is usually hb's job.  Next, I've planned to clean all the kitchen drawers...take everything out.  Vacuum it......hehehez I know what u thinking and wiped them all clean.  Oh well, it's only a plan....it might not happen heeezzzz.  One thing that must be done though is to 'decobwebtise' and clean the dust from the heater :(

Anyway, I promised hb to bake his all time favourite shortbread cookies.  I think his part Scottish is coming out of him when it comes to choice of cookies.  He even asked me to coat them with chocolate this time.  To me, I prefer shortbreads as original as they can be.  The dark chocolate coating seems to be too overpowering the buttery goodness of the shortbread.  I have made them before using the exact same recipe....I luv this recipe as its not only simple but it just taste oh so original.  As original as a Scottish shortbread should be but once they were dipped in chocolate, they don't taste original anymore. Just like hb whom is part Scottish and part Maori.....hehehez.  He claims to be a Maori though bcos he's more closer to his Maori roots and culture.

Enough to fill one shortbread mold.

Ingredients
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/3 c. powdered (icing) sugar
1/4 tsp. fine grain (table) salt
3/4 c. butter (1 1/2 sticks) (I used anchor)
1/2 tsp vanilla essence (I added)

Method
Using a food processor, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Pulse the ingrdedients once or twice just to thoroughly combine them.
Chop butter into large chunks and distribute evenly around the food processor bowl.
Replace the lid and process for 30-90 seconds, until the dough resembles fine crumbs.
Roll dough into a ball and chill it in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 160 deg C.
Take dough out of the fridge and roll it and cut into 1inch(w) x 3 inches (l), or you can use any cutters that you like.
Prick dough with a fork and bake it on a lined tray for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Dip in melted dark chocolate once shortbreads are cool.

Have a luvly weekend ;)  TTFN.......

Could you come over babe & help me out here...moi cleaning mojo is not only at ots lowest but probably gone to dunno where!

here nobody would volunteer unless some bribe or threat is dolled out..depending on the queen's mood. I could count with my fingers the times when the boys clean the whole house, kitchen & bathroom included without being asked, cajoled or threatened :)

but having said all that, come to think of it, the state of their rooms are somewhat cleaner or in place as compared to the kitchen after my baking session..so i think yg berserakkan rumah adalah..ai sendiri hiakhiakhiak!!

coming back to teh shortbread, this is more like biscuit dipped in choc..one of the days i am gonna make some..nodody here ever asked for shortbread..whatever la, takder org makan, ai yg akan makan...ya tak? that's why chef;s body makin bambam..oh well...

Yat,

Pegi sana....boleh aja *senyum kambing* adakah flight ticket I and Jannah akan disponsor oleh u babe. My hb tak payah lah biar dia jaga dan kemas rumah dkt sini ahakkksss :pp

Tapi mmg teenagers mmg susah nak suruh dorang buat keje2 rumah ni semua. Jannah ni aja asik nak bersibuk2 dkt dapur. Dia pernah cakap, nanti dah besar she's gonna take over the kitchen. We'll see how, kalau dah besar tak nak masak biar I belasah aja dia hehehez.

Bilik dia kadang2 mainan berkecah....I terjerit2 suruh dia kemas tapi dia buat bodoh aja. Tapi one thing for sure, dah serak drpd pagi....sebelom dia tido dia mesti kemas punya. Nampaknya berkesan jugak I terjerit2 ni.

U should try this shortbread babe ;) Ingredients punya lah senang. I tarok fridge sekejap aja, around 10 mins. Lama sgt nanti dia keras tak boleh roll. Sementara tu u cuci lah all ur utensils. Utensils pun tak byk...a few measuring cups and a food processor. Sedap....buttery yumminess heezz ada ke such word??

Siapa yang suka nak kemas rumah?? Lainlah kalau kita nih maid of honor from you-know-where yg memang mencari rezeki dari kerja membersih......kan?

Having said that, kita juga mcm takde choice, terpaksa buat kerja 'membanting tulang' berkemas dan bersihkan rumah *sebab ahli2 rumah yg lain tak lut habuk*.

My family suker shortbread. The nicest one yg jual kat s'market mmg mahal. So can I say that we also have that Scottish gene? ahaks...

Cik Som,

Dkt sini maid of honour tu kalau nak hire dorang mmg nak kena byr dorang dgn many2 honour. Terpaksa lah membanting tulang mengemas sendiri huhuhu. Ni pun tgh half way mengemas, belom abis2 lagi argghhh!! I rearrange bilik Jannah dgn sort out her baju2 yg dia dah tak muat. Besok continue....dah penat.

Ehhh Cik Som....entah2 u punya ancestors ada keturunan Scottish kot. Dorang punya skirt aka kilt (hehehez) warna apa?? :ppp

Today for the first time in a long time hairi cleaned his bedroom.. tak tahu angin aper but kan benda macam gini harus lah diberi kepujian so lain kali dia akan kemas lagi dan lagi dan lagi hehehe

Kemas i loike but gosok baju i no like.. boleh jadi marah.. ni on tuesday bef we drive i dah suruh my part time helper to come early morning to gosok baju ajer.. nak tunggu dia habis kemas and gosok nanti lepas zohor pun belum tentu game.. shes not as fast as lisa but what to do kan.. lisa tu part kemas and gosok memang pantas and good..

Rima,

Your right...kalau anak2 ni nak kemas mmg kena kasi dorang kepujian. Jannah ni dah tak lut dgn my nagging bila bilik dia berserak ahakkksss. Semalam I spring clean her bilik and barang bersepah....dia pulak nag dkt I sbb kasi bilik dia serak, padahal kita nak kemas. Haizzz anak...anak hehehez.

Sabar jer lah dgn ur helper. Asal dia honest sudah. Nanti mcm si Lisa tu buat kerja pantas, tangan pun pantas....lagi tak best.

This shortbread mmg sedap to us. Tapi kena handle quickly sbb kalau buat 'main' lama sangat the dough will cair ;)
